[Saba Sports News] Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has offered some strategic advice to Afghanistan and Netherlands in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Jaffer suggests that both teams should choose to bat first to put pressure on the opposition while defending their total. Notably, these two teams caused major upsets in the World Cup by defeating England and South Africa, respectively.
Jaffer emphasizes that given the batting-friendly conditions in India, both Afghanistan and Netherlands should aim to set a target when they win the toss. By doing so, they can potentially secure above-par scores, creating difficulties for their opponents in the chase. Interestingly, this approach was instrumental in their victories against cricketing giants.
In a tweet, Jaffer stated, “AFG & NED should look to bat first going forward in the WC. Bat without scoreboard pressure. Even if they post par totals, they can make life difficult for teams chasing. It’ll increase their chances of getting a win.”
Jaffer also celebrated the Netherlands’ historic victory over South Africa by sharing a humorous video clip on his social media account. The tweet went viral, gaining widespread attention. In the video, the “Waka Waka” song was played in a tongue-in-cheek response to the loss.
On October 17, in the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, the Netherlands achieved a significant upset by defeating South Africa by 38 runs. Led by Scott Edwards, they posted a total of 245 runs for the loss of eight wickets, with Edwards playing a pivotal role by scoring 78 runs from 69 balls. In response, they bowled out South Africa for 207 in 42.5 overs.
