[Saba Sports News] Netherlands faces Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday. Both captains, Scott Edwards and Shakib Al Hasan, made two changes to their lineups, with Roelof van der Merwe missing due to illness.
The Netherlands brought in experienced Wesley Barresi and leg-spinner Shariz Ahmad, with Barresi becoming the oldest player in ODI World Cup 2023 at 39. Shariz, a 20-year-old, made his World Cup debut. Teja Nidamanuru was benched due to his poor performance, averaging only 13.80 in five matches.
Bangladesh dropped Hasan Mahmud and Nasum Ahmed, bringing in spin-bowling all-rounder Mahedi Hasan and experienced seamer Taskin Ahmed. Mahedi previously took four wickets against England but was benched in subsequent matches. Taskin can benefit from the Eden Gardens pitch’s assistance to pacers.
At the toss, Edwards chose to bat first, citing a good-looking wicket. He acknowledged his team’s previous loss to Australia but expressed confidence in their overall performance. Shakib emphasized the importance of performing well in the PowerPlay, both in batting and bowling.
