[Saba Sports News] Two time World Cup-winning captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni, known for his breadcrumb-dropping, is leaving the door ajar for a possible comeback in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni’s CSK are the defending champions of the IPL as they defeated Gujarat Titans in the final of the last edition by five wickets (DLS Method).
Dhoni has featured in 250 IPL games and has 5,082 runs under his belt. ‘Thala’ Dhoni is one of the biggest brand faces of the IPL as the Captain Cool has an almirah that contains five prestigious IPL trophies, which he won while leading CSK in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023.
However, as soon as the final ended came to an end, fans were eagerly waiting for a hint from Dhoni that he would make his return in the next season too. On the night of the IPL 16 final, Dhoni mentioned in the post-presentation that “A lot depends on the body” as the wicketkeeper-batter was dealing with some issues with his knee.
Nevertheless, right after the tournament, Dhoni got his knee surgery done, which he recently announced at an event in Bengaluru was successful, and he is making good progress.
In a recent promotional event, Dhoni was seen in a light mood, talking about his rehabilitation. But before he gave an update on his knee, a funny moment took place between the interviewers and Dhoni.
The interviewer asked Dhoni, “Now that you have retired from cricket…,” to which the other panelist interrupted right away, saying: “from international cricket,” with Dhoni immediately laughing and agreeing.
If this indication is anything to go by, the 42-year-old is set to return back to the playing field in the IPL 2024.
“Knee has survived the operation, going through the rehab phase. The doctor told me you would feel much better by November. But no problem in day-to-day routine,” said Dhoni while giving an update on his rehabilitation.
