Due to a minor left-side strain, fast bowler Gerald Coetzee of the Texas Super Kings and South Africa will miss the remainder of MLC 2024. In TSK’s opening tournament matchup with Los Angeles Knight Riders, the 23-year-old sustained an injury. During the match, he returned statistics of 1 for 28 from his four overs.
TSK has not yet announced a substitute for Coetzee, choosing instead to start veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in Coetzee’s place for the next washed-out game against Washington Freedom.
It has been an injury-riddled 2024 so far for Coetzee, who had a pelvic injury at the start of the year that saw him miss the second test vs India at Cape Town. That led him to be under constant CSA guidance as they kept close tabs on his rehab and recovery while he was plying his trade in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians.
His performances in the IPL were middling at best. He did take 13 wickets in his maiden IPL experience but was expensive in the 10 matches that he played, going at an economy of 10.18. But those performances were enough for him to merit a place in the South Africa side for the T20 World Cup. While his side lost in the final to India, he did not make a single appearance in the tournament.
Before his next assignment, a Test tour of the West Indies, for which he was just selected in a 16-man team, Coetzee will have roughly a month to recover fully from his injury. Beginning on August 7, Trinidad will host the first Test in that series. Guyana will host the second Test starting on August 15.
