[Saba Sports News] Pakistan’s skipper in white-ball cricket, Babar Azam, is brimming with confidence and optimism regarding Gary Kirsten’s recent appointment as the team’s new head coach for limited-overs cricket. Kirsten, a seasoned coach with a wealth of experience, has been tasked with altering Pakistan’s fortunes in the upcoming T20 World Cup and beyond.
“He (Kirsten) is a highly experienced coach, and his presence should benefit us all. He is already deeply involved in planning for the World Cup and engaging in strategic discussions with the team management,” Babar remarked.
Kirsten wasted no time establishing effective communication with the team, actively receiving updates on their training and preparations. “He (Kirsten) shares his strategies with us, engages in discussions with coaches regarding our plans, and we keep him informed about our practice sessions, including how our bowling practice went today,” Babar stated.
Addressing concerns over selection issues, Babar assured that all decisions would prioritize the team’s interests. He stressed the importance of providing young players with sufficient time to acclimate to international cricket, emphasizing the support provided by the management.
“With the World Cup looming, there’s little time for rotation, and we’ll aim to give the squad we intend to field in the World Cup ample opportunities in the remaining matches,” Babar continued.
Looking ahead to the much-anticipated clash against India, Babar recognized the need to devise strategies to counter the formidable Virat Kohli. However, he emphasized that Pakistan’s focus would extend beyond specific individuals to formulating plans against the entire opposition lineup.
“We strategize against all eleven players of the opposing team, considering the uncertain conditions in New York. However, Kohli is undeniably one of the best players, and we will devise plans to counter him as well,” Babar stated.
Reflecting on his previous successes as captain, Babar attributed them to the unwavering support of his teammates and the backing of the board. “The success I’ve achieved as captain is due to the support of my teammates, and I’m grateful for the complete backing from the board,” he concluded.
