Sports News] In a recent media interview, former French F1 legend Boutsen
shared his views on the current generation of F1 cars. Boutsen believes that
the car, rather than the driver, is the primary focus of the current F1 era due
to the ease of driving the modern cars. According to Boutsen, as long as there
is a driver with good driving skills and strong performance, the difference in
driver abilities becomes less significant. Most of the competition revolves
around technological advancements. Boutsen stated, “Without the best car,
you can’t win, and you can’t do anything. The lap time differences are very minimal
because the car is already pushed to its limits, leaving little room for
drivers to exceed those limits and compensate for deficiencies.” Boutsen
argues that in contemporary F1, even an average driver with a good car can
achieve impressive speeds. However, on the flip side, even a top-tier driver is
constrained by the capabilities of the car. The editor believes that this
represents the changing nature of F1. The sport has always emphasized
technology, high performance, and strategic competition, as the choice of
strategy during races significantly impacts the outcomes. This is the charm of
F1, and it necessitates a departure from our previous conceptions when
evaluating the present state of the sport.
