[Saba Sports News] Chasing a formidable target of 222, the Rajasthan Royals faced a steep challenge after losing their explosive openers early in the powerplay, with scores of 4 (2) and 19 (17). However, Sanju Samson’s dynamic innings kept the Royals in contention throughout most of the chase against Delhi Capitals on May 7. Samson quickly scored his fifth half-century of IPL 2024 in just 26 balls, appearing poised to carry his team to victory.
However, during the fourth ball of the 16th over, with 60 runs needed from 26 balls, Samson was caught at long-on by Shai Hope. Initially, the catch appeared clean in real-time and the first replays. But a third replay, from a different angle, cast doubt on the call. Despite the ambiguity, the third umpire quickly confirmed the on-field decision.
Samson, clearly frustrated, returned to the pitch to seek clarification from the umpires, questioning the decision as Hope’s leg appeared to touch the boundary cushion in one angle. He was eventually dismissed and walked off the field disheartened, with the Royals ultimately falling short by 20 runs.
After the match, during the customary handshakes, Rishabh Pant showed sportsmanship by consoling Samson with a warm hug, a gesture of respect towards his fellow Indian team member. This moment was captured and shared on the official Indian Premier League handle on X.
