[Saba Sports News] A scammer impersonating former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni attempted to deceive his fans into sending money through a crafty social media message. The message claimed Dhoni was stranded without his wallet and needed funds to return home.
It read, “Hi, I am MS Dhoni, I am messaging you from my private account. I am in the outskirts of Ranchi and have forgotten my wallet. Can you PhonePe me ₹600 so I can return home by bus, will send back once I get home.” To bolster the scam, the impersonator posted a picture of Dhoni, calling it a “selfie” and even used CSK’s iconic slogan “Whistle Podu” to lend credibility.
The conversation screenshot quickly went viral on X, drawing varied reactions from netizens.
While this scam unfolded online, MS Dhoni continued to excel on the cricket field. He achieved a milestone by becoming the first wicketkeeper-batter to score 5000 runs in the IPL, showcasing his explosive batting style, particularly noted during the match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In this game, Dhoni played a vital knock of 28 runs off just 9 balls, but despite his efforts, CSK lost to LSG.
Dhoni’s prowess in the IPL, especially in the death overs, has been a highlight, scoring remarkably at a strike rate of over 246. His ability to perform without regular match practice has been praised by cricket legends like Sourav Ganguly, Wasim Jaffer, and Tom Moody. They lauded his unique skill set and continued impact in the game, even as he stepped down from captaincy duties and passed the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the beginning of the IPL’s 17th edition.
Throughout his tenure as captain, Dhoni led CSK to five IPL titles, securing his legacy as one of the most successful captains in the league’s history. His recent performances underscore his enduring talent and pivotal role in CSK’s ongoing success.
