[Saba Sports News] MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer, is facing challenges in IPL 2024 due to a muscle tear, which has necessitated his batting lower in the order. Despite his good form and ability to score in limited chances, seeing Dhoni bat at eight or nine has been surprising, particularly as his team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), needs victories to stay in playoff contention.
Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has suggested that Dhoni should consider stepping down from the playing XI, recommending that CSK should include an extra bowler if Dhoni is to bat below Shardul Thakur during critical moments.
Recent reports reveal that the 42-year-old is contending with this injury, but due to a lack of suitable backups, he has chosen to continue playing.
A source from CSK highlighted Dhoni’s dedication, noting his significant sacrifices for the team. Despite his injury, Dhoni has not shown signs of discomfort while keeping, still actively running between the wickets.
“We are virtually playing with our ‘B’ team. Those who are criticizing Dhoni don’t know the sacrifice that he is doing for this team,” the CSK source revealed.
Dhoni has played nine innings this season, accumulating 110 runs with an impressive strike rate of 224.48, particularly excelling during the death overs.
As the IPL approaches its critical stages, Dhoni aims to maintain his performance to help CSK, currently third in the points table with 12 points from 11 games, secure a playoff spot.
Winning two of their remaining three matches could ensure their advancement, but a clean sweep would guarantee a playoff position.
