[Saba Sports News] Pat Cummins, captain of both the Australian national team and the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise, celebrated his 31st birthday on May 8, 2024. On the same day, his team faced the Lucknow Super Giants in an important match. The celebration included his teammates playfully smearing cake on him. The official X handle of SRH shared a touching photo of Cummins with his father, Peter Cummins, both smiling in black and white collared T-shirts, with remnants of cake on Peter’s face.
2023 was a tough year for Cummins, who lost his mother, Maria Cummins, to cancer, calling it the hardest time of his life. Professionally, however, he achieved significant milestones, retaining the Ashes in England, becoming the No.1 Test bowler with 18 dismissals in nine innings, and playing a key role in winning the World Test Championship against India. Cummins continued his exceptional form by leading Australia to victory in the ODI World Cup against India and winning the ICC Cricketer of the Year award.
An effective lower-order batter, Cummins has scored 1,295 runs in 89 innings, demonstrating skill and consistency. As a bowler, he has taken 269 wickets in 119 innings, making him the 10th highest wicket-taker for Australia in Test cricket.
