[Saba Sports News] Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to rejoin the national team after a prolonged break, as he has been selected for the last two T20Is against Zimbabwe on May 10 and 12 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. Shakib’s last appearance in a 20-over match for Bangladesh featured a standout Player of the Match performance against Afghanistan, where he took 2/15 in three overs and scored an unbeaten 18* from 11 balls, securing a series victory. His anticipated participation in the white-ball series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka was thwarted by an eye condition and a finger injury.
In his absence, Najmul Hossain Shanto assumed the role of captain across all formats. Shakib was rested for the initial three T20Is against Zimbabwe to participate in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, aiming to refine his skills for the international stage. Representing Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, he scored 262 runs in six matches, including a century and a half-century, and took nine wickets across 56 overs.
In the league’s final on May 6, 2024, against Prime Bank Cricket Club, Shakib delivered a strong bowling performance with figures of 10-2-42-2, although he was dismissed for a golden duck; his team finished as runners-up, losing by 199 runs.
The Bangladesh squad for the fourth and fifth T20Is against Zimbabwe includes: Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Litton Kumar Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali Anik, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam, Mohammad Saifuddin.
