[Saba Sports News] The flight from Lucknow to Kolkata typically lasts just 100 minutes, but the Kolkata Knight Riders took nearly 24 hours to arrive due to a squall that hit Kolkata.
Forced to reroute, the team spent the night in Varanasi. “Our manager and logistics team did a tremendous job,” said KKR CEO Venky Mysore.
The disruption began when the squall prevented their flight, which had departed from Lucknow at 5:45 pm on Monday, from landing in Kolkata. The flight was initially diverted to Guwahati, and then, departing at about 11 PM, it was redirected to Varanasi where it landed at 1:15 am. After spending the night there and some players visiting the Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple, they finally reached Kolkata at around 5 pm on Tuesday.
A team official mentioned, “The mood in the camp is fine, and we have a game only on May 11, so the extra travel was not a major stress.”
With 16 points from 11 games, the Knight Riders are in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs. They will next face Mumbai Indians and then travel to Ahmedabad for a game against Gujarat Titans on May 13, before concluding their league matches in Guwahati against Rajasthan Royals on May 19.
