[Saba Sports News] Following his victory in the
men’s singles badminton event at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Danish star Viktor
Axelsen announced his decision to settle in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Departing from the Danish national team to embark on a “solo flight,”
Axelsen plans to establish his own training camp and company in Dubai. He has
already enlisted the services of sparring partners such as Lakshya Sen from
India, Brian Yang from Canada, Toby Penty from Britain, Felix Burestedt from
Sweden, and Loh Kean Yew from Singapore. This has led some fans to question the
reasons behind Axelsen’s choice to settle in Dubai. Recently, the media has
summarized three main reasons. Firstly, Axelsen has been dealing with pollen
allergy symptoms, and the high pollen index in Europe during spring and summer
exacerbates his condition. Settling in Dubai offers relief from his allergies.
Secondly, Dubai is strategically located in Central Asia, serving as a major
transit point for international flights. This convenient location allows for
easy travel to both Asia and Europe, reducing time and economic costs
associated with participating in competitions. Lastly, Dubai provides
comprehensive training facilities and optimal conditions, which can contribute
to Axelsen’s improvement and enhance his competitive level. Currently ranked
first in the world in men’s singles badminton, Axelsen is considered a favorite
to win gold at the Paris Olympics.
