Sports News] Hong Kong badminton player Ye Pui Yin has announced her retirement
via social media, garnering significant attention from fans. Ye Pui Yin
expressed on social media that her athletic career has come to a close.
Reflecting on her early days as an athlete, many believed that at just 17 years
old, she had many more years ahead to continue playing. However, in the blink
of an eye, 19 years have passed, and time has flown by. Moving forward, she
intends to carry on the spirit of “Black Girl” (Ye Pui Yin’s
nickname) and the passion and dedication of athletes by teaching badminton and
nurturing the next generation. Ye Pui Yin, aged 36, has had a passion for
outdoor sports since childhood. Her coach gave her the nickname “Black
Girl” due to her tanned skin. She joined the Hong Kong Badminton Team in
2003 and became renowned for her distinctive and bold playing style. At the
time, she was one of the few female players in world badminton who could execute
powerful jump smashes. Her highest ranking in women’s singles was No. 8 in the
world. Ye Pui Yin’s sports career can be described as “evergreen.”
She participated in the Badminton World Championships for 14 consecutive years,
setting a new record in women’s singles.
